The
San Jose Earthquakes became a Major League Soccer team in 1995. However, back then they were known as the San
Jose Clash. The team did not take on the
Earthquakes name until the 2000 Major League Soccer season. The Earthquakes were one of the ten charter
members of Major League Soccer. The
first ever Major League Soccer goal was scored by a member of the Earthquakes
named Eric Wynalda.
